My boyfriend of 8 years has a friend I really don’t like. I’ve met him a few times, and every time, I get the sense that he’s not a good person or a positive influence. Still, he and my boyfriend are very close, they text every day.
I’m divorced with a 10-year-old, and my boyfriend has never been married, though he was once engaged. I’m not someone who pressures for marriage, especially since I’ve already been through it, but if he asked, I’d say yes.
This friend of his comes off as a woman-hater and constantly talks badly about his girlfriend and her kids. She lives out of state, and they only see each other about once a month.
I’ve seen some of their texts, and I know he doesn’t speak kindly about his girlfriend’s children, and by extension, doesn’t speak nicely about my 10-year-old either. It feels like he encourages my boyfriend to share that mindset or at least not push back. He’s just not a good influence, but I feel powerless to do anything about it.
