So, I entered keke on a Saturday morning & few minutes later the driver picks up this fine babe. So, now it’s just the two of us at the back
The babe is hot—like ‘cheat on ur wife’ kind of hot. I’m already rehearsing my pick-up line in my head when she pulls out a small mirror
from her handbag and says, “Excuse me, can you help me hold this?”
Ahh! What God cannot do does not exist! I took the mirror happily and held it up for her smiling like a f00l while she started fixing her hair and applying makeup
After holding it for her for like 15 minutes, I introduce myself. She smiled but kept painting her lips. My busstop was close, and I didn’t want to miss my chance. So, I brought out my phone and said, “Please, can I have ur number?”
She looked at me, from my head to my feet…
“I went to play basketball with my guys” I was explaining because me sef I know I was looking sweaty and a bit dirty, “Sorry, I don’t give my number to strangers.” She replied Ehn?! Strangers?! Immediately, I let go of the mirror. It fell & shattered into pieces…
Calmly, I told the driver, “Oga, I’ll stop here.” I got down and could feel her angry eyes bvrning into my back.
“You don’t give strangers your number, but you let strangers hold your mirror? Make it make sense!” I hiss at her and walked home…
I got to my gate & wanted to call my babe to come over but instead I felt an emptiness in my pocket. My phone! My iPhone 12 was gone!
It must have fallen in the keke! Panic mode activated. I ran inside, borrowed my neighbor’s phone & dialed my number…
“Hello?” a female voice answered. My heart skipped. It was her—the mirror girl.
“Good evening, ma. It’s me, the guy that helped you hold your mirror just now. Thank u for finding my phone. Please, how can I get it back?”
She laughed for what felt like forever & finally gave…
me directions. I was so grateful I thanked and prayed for her over the phone. Without wasting time, I jumped into a bus. The place was FAR—like “Are we still in Lagos?” far. At some point I began to question my decision but it’s an iPhone in 2025, I can’t lose it…
When I got there, I called her. She said, “Ah, u wasted time. I’ve left.” Then she gave me directions to where she was again
Another journey began. This new location was farther than the first. I got there, called her again & she said casually, “I just left there. U’re too slow”
I was losing my mind but held my composure. I even apologized & begged her to meet me at a fastfood near her current location.
She agreed. I told her to order food & relax & when I reach I’ll pay. Then she laughed & said she doesn’t trust me that I should video myself buying it Just to prove I wasn’t joking. I got to the fast-food & used my neighbor’s phone to call her video call.
After I paid and sat down, she said, “I’ve changed my mind. I’m not hungry.”
With tears forming in my eyes, I left the food untouched cos no appetite. I needed my phone…
She gave me another location & told me to come quickly to where she was now because she’s busy & won’t wait for me.
This time, I took a bike & told the aboki rider, “Fly, my brother!”
I arrived quickly & called her. She laughed again and said, “You’re lucky I’m not wicked…
If I was, I’d keep sending u around Lagos until u’ll spend the money I used in buying the mirror u broke cos I refused to give u my number”
I thanked her for her kindness & begged her to come out that I’ve learned my lesson. That’s when she dropped the bomb
“U’re a big mumu o!”
I said, “Yes ma, I know.”
She laughed & said, “Jesus, can’t u tell I’m not giving u your phone? If I was truly wicked, I’d have u roaming around Lagos like a madman till u collapse. Just go home & buy a new phone. This one? Otilo o.”Then she hung up & switched off my phone…
I sat down in the middle of the road, staring at nothing and weeping. My precious iPhone 12, gone. I went back to the keke park, hoping the driver would remember her face. He didn’t.
It’s been two weeks now, and I keep returning to that junction, hoping to see her again…
Girl with the mirror, I swear, any day I catch you—any day—eyes have not seen, nor ears heard, what I will do to you!
The End
